The Haiku stairs are on the Kaneohe side of the Koolau mountains and (a portion of them) can be seen on H-3 as you approach the longer of two tunnels. They are known as the Stairway to Heaven and were closed after too many accidents. People still disregard the no trespassing signs on the private property leading to the steps; some have cut through the fence on the property to get to it. I believe if anyone needs rescuing they have to pay the expense out of pocket. They've really cracked down on the violators in recent years. (Yes, that's a good thing.) I was always gonna go up there before they closed it, but never got around to it. Now I get tired just looking at it!
